Vegetation characteristics and precipitation jointly influence grassland bird abundance beyond the effects of grazing management

چکیده
Abstract Grassland birds have experienced some of the steepest population declines any guild in North America. The shortgrass steppe contains America’s most intact grasslands, which makes region particularly important for these species. It is well known that grassland differentially respond to variation vegetation structure generated by spatiotemporally varying disturbance like grazing management. However, understanding how species characteristics beyond or could better inform management steppe. We analyzed point count data 5 bird breeding on Central Plains Experimental Range northeastern Colorado from 2013 2017 examine predictive capacity models representing fine-scale (~5 ha) attributes (vegetation and cover type) topography, combined with interannual precipitation variability (i.e. vegetation-abiotic models). then compared based treatments (applied whole pastures, ~130 edaphic conditions (ecological sites), represented information more generally available rangeland managers. Precipitation, structure, type influenced all a manner consistent with, but nuanced than, alone. These also explained abundance responded Thus, while can be applied adaptively improve habitat species, our detailed identified species-specific components targeted For example, not pastures extensive, homogenous stands mid-height grasses (e.g., Hesperostipa comata) an entire growing season during wet years one strategy enhance Grasshopper Sparrow (Ammodramus savannarum) stockpile residual forage future utilization livestock. Our provide reveal nuances suite environmental rangelands.

Effects of Intermediate-Term Grazing Rest on the Vegetation Characteristics of Steppe Rangelands
The effects of grazing rest on rangelands are different in different climates and knowledge of these effects is necessary to apply correct management. For this purpose, this study was carried out on the percent vegetation cover (PVC) and forage production (FP) of range species at the Nir Range Research Station in Yazd province as a model of steppe rangelands of Iran. In the study area, differen...
متن کاملInfluence of Prescribed Burning on Bird Abundance and Species Assemblage in a Semiarid Great Plains Grassland
—Encroachment of woody plants is widespread in semiarid grasslands of the southwestern United States. Wildlife responses to shrub removal techniques in the region are relatively unknown. In 2008 and 2009, we examined avian responses to prescribed burning of ungrazed shortgrass prairie within a study area (4811 ha) near Amarillo, Texas, that is heavily encroached by honey mesquite (Prosopis glan...
متن کاملGrassland Management with Emphasis on Grazing Behaviour
Investigations into the behavioural responses by ruminants to differences in their grazing environment have led to improved understanding of the grazing process. This has proved useful in developing management strategies which are not only sympathetic to the animals’ natural behaviour, but can improve the level and efficiency of resource use. The components of grazing behaviour considered are a...

since the 1960s the age effects on learning both first and second language have been explored by many linguists and applied linguists (e.g lennerberg, 1967; schachter, 1996; long, 1990) and the existence of critical period for language acquisition was found to be a common ground of all these studies. in spite of some common findings, some issues about the impacts of age on acquiring a second or...
